Environmental Quality Incentives Program

Purpose
The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary program for farmers and ranchers that promotes both agricultural production and environmental quality. Since its inception in 1996, EQIP has been NRCS's leading cost-share program for implementing conservation practices.

Aspects of the Program
Through single and / or multi-year contracts, EQIP can provide cost-sharing assistance to producers to implement conservation practices as part of a tract based total resource management system. Typical practices utilized within Iredell County include:
  • Dry-stack waste storage for poultry
  • Fencing
  • Heavy use areas
  • Stabilized water systems
  • Various cropland systems
  • Waste storage facility
